The global food market’s shelves are getting bare and hunger activists say it will get worse. As the nation marks World Hunger Relief Week, more people are asking: Why are so many people starving and what, if anything, can be done to eradicate hunger?

2 It is against the law. Each one can BUY some and donate it though. Other than that, a consortium of household growers like that would be criminalized pretty quick. The world is going hungry and they are starving to death because of a couple things. The first is greed and profit. How many people die of starvation everyday compared to how many "farmers" receive farm subsidies in the US to GROW NOTHING. That could be resolved by taking away the subsidies and have these farmers work and produce food, sell it, and they will not need this free pork barrel money. Look at the list of wealthy non-farmers who get these subsidies and how many people have bought farmland solely to live on and get rich on the subsidies? Billions or more acres of arable land in the world but people starve by the millions. That CANNOT be a mistake or an oversight. It is even illegal for a private person in the US to grow food beyond a certain amount for personal use. Yeah, it's criminal offense. Many rake in billions to grow nothing and a handfull of farmers rake in billions but yet they produce enough food to starve the world to death when if farming was re-ordered, let the subsidy welfare case farmers collapse, there would be many farmers making millions and feeding the world. Our GNP and tax coffers would skyrocket. Plus toss in the almost monthly meat recalls based on assumed and not proven contamination for the purpose of diverting it to another source to still be used for food or destroyed and in some cases, disappear completely. I think that with so many people starving to death and so many people paid to grow nothing and so few farmers making billions from short sheeting the world food supply and it being a crime for others to grow food in an appreciable amount you are looking at separate pieces of a bigger picture to kill off as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time without it being obvious. Most of the starving are non-whites too. That sticks out like a sore thumb. As for our own people and children going hungry that is a matter of them being financially broken by the Bush administration and the corporate sector and toss in huge increases in food prices bcause of high fuel prices but then suddenly the price of cude bottoms out but yet food consistently remains at record high prices. It is gouging after the fact. They call it "sticky prices." What is the difference in stick prices after the fact and as if they gouged food prices without there being any dramatic increase in crude and fuel prices? Nothing, it has the ame effect both ways but gouging after the fact is not illegal which is why they are doing it, in fact, even raising prices still. America was the bead basket of the world. What happened? Thank the greedy farmers and their lobbyists and their interests that financially greased the politicians into turning the bread basket of the world into a bankrupt and busted institution. |

1 Resources are not getting to the bottom. The Food Stamp program not only puts food on the table for those in need, but also supports local grocery stores where the food stamps are redeemed. The $$$ goes to the store where people are working... Making jobs and feeding the hungry all at the same time. Personally.... I also believe that a food tax credit should be available for families. |

1 Or how about we cut off food stamps. Give each family on foodstamps an acre or two of land, some seeds, a mule, some chickens, teach them to raise crops and livestock and let them feed themselves. After the first couple of years they would be able to feed themselves. It would also free up some money for the rest of the people who can't afford much food either. They could lower taxes because not as many people would need assistance with food. That way everybody could afford to eat well. But then again they will just try to ban more fastfood ads, so we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. |
